On January 26, California Western School of Law students Jonathan Chikamoto, Yoko Konno, and Taryn Perez were awarded scholarships at the 2017 Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego (PALSD)/Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego (FALSD) annual dinner. Of the scholarships available to all San Diego law students, CWSL students received three out of a possible five.
PALSD/FASLD scholarships are awarded based on past, current, and future service to the Asian/Pacific Islander communities, academic achievement and extracurricular activities, and post-law school goals.
"I am thankful to PALSD and FALSD for their generous bar exam scholarship in recognition of my community service and commitment to educational achievement," says Chikamoto. "I am grateful for the honor and look forward to continuing to serve in the legal community and the community at large."
Marion Cloete, California Western's director of diversity services, proudly reflects on the law school's long-standing record of accomplishment in targeted scholarship programs. "This has been another banner year for scholarship awards to our students from La Raza Lawyers of San Diego, the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association, and PALSD/FALSD," Cloete explains. "These scholarships encourage our students, but also continue to raise the profile of the law school within our community and among employers."
"I feel greatly honored to receive this scholarship from the organization that is dedicated to our Asian community," says Konno. "I look forward to passing the bar and helping my fellow Japanese immigrants."
Taryn Perez echoes her fellow award recipients' sentiment: "It's great that PALSD/FALSD are able to reward students for their commitment, volunteer work, and promotion of their organizations in the form of scholarships.
California Western congratulates Jonathan, Yoko, Taryn, and all of the law school's diversity scholarship recipients on their outstanding achievements year after year.
