California Western School Of Law building background

Community Law Project

The California Western Community Law Project (CLP) provides legal advice to low-income individuals and some of the most vulnerable residents of San Diego County.

A Unique Opportunity

Students work one-on-one with clients and volunteer attorneys in a variety of legal areas — from landlord and tenant housing issues to immigration and employment disputes; from bankruptcy claims to personal injury filings. This unique clinic allows volunteer law students the opportunity to develop a commitment to public service and experience the benefits of helping those in need while learning essential lawyering skills from experienced practitioners.

One of my memorable experiences was when I was shadowing a volunteer attorney at a Community Law Project clinic last summer. Pro bono and public service work is important to me because it allows me to use the education that I am so fortunate to receive to make a difference in our community.

Clinic Overview

Students along with volunteer attorneys meet with clients at five clinic sites throughout San Diego County. Interns also provide workshops and presentations on topics of interest to community organizations and schools. CLP also includes a classroom component. During these sessions, student volunteers can deepen their understanding of public interest work and debrief their live client experiences with the executive director and the supervising attorney.

Community Law Project

The Community Law Project offers free legal services to low-income and vulnerable communities in the San Diego area through its legal clinics. Law students work under a supervising attorney and with volunteer attorneys to offer free legal information through clinics and workshops.
