SAN DIEGO (July 3, 2024) -- California Western School of Law (CWSL) is proud to announce that Raymond Vasquez 1L won the Best Direct Examination Award at the Contra Costa Prosecutor Academy. The Prosecutor Academy is a five-day seminar run through the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office providing specialized training and trial practice for 1L students from top law schools in California. Raymond studied under current Deputy District Attorneys and practiced delivery of Opening Statements, Direct Examinations, Cross Examinations, and Closing Statements. At the conclusion of the seminar, Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton gave him the award for Best Direct Examination.

In just his first year, Raymond has developed an impressive law school resume. He won the Distinguished Advocate award in the inaugural Bobbie Thyfault Appellate Competition—and was the first to do so after starting in the Spring semester. He was also the first CWSL student to be accepted to the New Media Rights Clinic as a Spring start. Raymond is currently at work on a Law Review article tackling a new area in international law.

He grew up in Anaheim, is a first-generation college graduate, and the first law student in his family.
