California Western School of Law Programmatic Learning Outcomes

During your time at California Western, you will focus on developing skills that will push you to the next level as a lawyer and make you practice-ready. The following learning outcomes have been identified by the faculty to reflect the knowledge and skills you will achieve by graduation.

Upon graduation, students will be able to: 

• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of bar-tested subjects, including recalling, 
  interpreting, and applying legal rules and doctrines under exam conditions.
• Communicate legal analysis clearly and effectively, in writing and orally, in a manner 
  consistent with legal practice, while also demonstrating these skills under time constraints. 
• Conduct legal research and use legal authorities effectively, including through the use of 
  evolving legal technologies and tools, with attention to accuracy, efficiency, and professional 
  responsibility. 
• Demonstrate knowledge of professional responsibility and ethical obligations, 
  including topics tested on the MPRE and an understanding of a lawyer’s duties to 
  clients, the legal system, and society. 
• Exercise professional judgment and apply foundational lawyering skills, including 
  client counseling, advocacy, and problem-solving, in a manner that reflects the 
  development of professional identity and readiness for entry into the profession.
