The Rule of Law: A Global Examination of Government and Institutional Power
March 27, 2026
The California Western International Law Journal and Law Review will be hosting a
joint symposium titled: The Rule of Law: A Global Examination of Government and Institutional Power.
The symposium will address governments’ role in upholding the rule of law. The “rule
of law” is the idea that universally applicable rules implemented through established
procedures govern society. Non-adherence to the rule of law can impact the trajectory
of a nation’s government and affect the rights afforded to its citizens. To break
down these ideas, panel discussion will delve into the operation of government, in
theory and in practice, to assess threats and safeguards to the rule of law. The conversation
will draw on international perspectives for comparative dialogue. In the context of
today’s social and political climate, this conversation is crucial to our constitutional
democracy.
