
California Western Faculty Highlights – February 2025

SAN DIEGO (March 3, 2025) - Faculty at California Western School of Law (CWSL) are continuing to prolifically produce groundbreaking work and present it across the country and around the globe.
Here are some highlights of the faculty’s activities from the month of February:
Vice Dean Hannah Brenner Johnson and Professor Renee Knake Jefferson (University of Houston Law Center) presented, “The Ascension of Minority Women to the United States Supreme Court” at the Women’s Leadership in Law & Politics Winter Symposium at the Center for Constitutional Law & The Bliss Institute for Applied Politics at The University of Akron.

Professor William Aceves was quoted in the article “Procter & Gamble, Kroger defend diversity policies amid Trump attack on DEI” in Cincinnati Enquirer.

Professor of Law, James Cooper
Professor James Cooper and co-author Kashyap Kompella published an op-ed, “Why AI should be a hallmark of US foreign assistance”, in The Hill.
Professor Cooper gave his presentation, “Beyond the Hype: Real-World Applications and Ethical Implications of AI in Legal Practice” to the Federal Bar Association.

Professor Shawn Fields’ article, “Searches and Seizures of the Unhoused”, has been accepted by and is forthcoming in Georgetown Law Journal.

Professor Nancy Marcus and Visiting Professor Kyle Velte signed onto the Griffith Amicus Brief that was influential in the recent Tenth Circuit case, Griffith v. El Paso County.

Professor Kristen van de Biezenbos was quoted in the article, “Texas Moves on Renewables While Alberta’s Oil Ties Hold Firm” in The Energy Mix.
