Submissions

Submit

We strive to publish provocative and thoughtful scholarship on a wide range of legal topics concerning international law. Therefore, the California Western International Law Journal welcomes unsolicited manuscripts on topics of interest pertaining to international and comparative law.

Issues are released twice a year in the Fall and Spring, both in print and online.

Submission Guidelines

Please ensure manuscripts conform to the following:

  • Article Content: Articles should be timely and provide an original, in-depth analysis of a topic of interest as opposed to a summary of previous research efforts. The Journal strives to provide a forum for a broad diversity of opinion.
  • Article Format and Length: All manuscripts should be submitted in English with text double-spaced. Footnotes must conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed.). Authors should be prepared to supply any cited sources upon request. Although we will consider articles of any length, we generally accept article submissions between 10,000 to 30,000 words. Please allow margins of at least one inch on all sides of the typed pages.
  • Author Eligibility: We accept article submissions from practicing attorneys and legal scholars, as well as Ph.D. students. Current J.D. and LL.M. students at other schools are not eligible.
  • Submitting Articles: We request authors attach a résumé or CV to their submission. The title page should include the author's full name, his or her academic/professional affiliations, and complete contact information for whom correspondence can be made. Manuscripts may be submitted as a Microsoft Word document via email.

Authors may submit manuscripts via Scholastica or email at JavaScript Required.

Editorial Review Process

The California Western International Law Journal accepts submissions for its Fall publication during the months of April through August. For its Spring publication, submissions are accepted from August through December.

All pieces will be evaluated as expeditiously as possible, and the Journal will notify authors who have been selected for publication. If any part of the paper has been published elsewhere, the author must include this information at the time of submission.

Professor James Copper

A lot of law schools talk about international law. California Western School of Law does more than talk. We actually do international law. Sure, doctrine is important-the law of treaties, the understanding of customs and what it is to be a civilized nation. But, fieldwork is also important-a place to put the theory into practice.
