SAN DIEGO (March, 2025) - California Western School of Law (CWSL) hosted guest speaker Randall Kennedy, Michael R. Klein Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. Professor Kennedy is a renowned American legal scholar whose research focuses on the intersection of racial conflict and legal institutions in America.

Professor Kennedy’s lecture, “Freedom of Expression and the Race Question”, tackled the topics he is currently researching for a book project. Students, alumni, faculty, staff and San Diego community members filled the room to listen to him discuss how his mindset and outlook on freedom of expression has shifted over the years and why, using academic discourse and legal precedent to punctuate his words.

Professor Kennedy’s talk was met with lively discussion, considerate questions, and well-received honest answers. CWSL is proud of the inquisitive questions from our community and their clear eagerness to comprehend and engage with the law. CWSL is also grateful for the thoughtful responses and approachable demeanor of our distinguished speaker.

This event was made possible by CWSL’s Dean and Professor Robert K. Castetter and Marjorie B. Castetter Fund.
