California Western School of Law’s Dean and Alumni Publish Op-Eds in San Diego Union Tribune
SAN DIEGO (August 12, 2024) – Last week, the San Diego Union Tribune published op-eds by California Western School of Law (CWSL)’s President and Dean Sean Scott, Board of Trustees member and alumnus Bruce McDonald ‘87, and recent graduate Christy Hsu ’23.
Dean Scott, the first person of color and first woman to serve as dean of the school, wrote about CWSL’s centennial anniversary this year and the school’s 100-year tradition of preparing practice-ready attorneys and legal leaders.
Bruce McDonald ’87, a retired United States Navy vice admiral and member of CWSL’s Board of Trustees, wrote about how his California Western education prepared him to testify before Congress on the legality of waterboarding detainees. He commented on the influence his professors had, inspiring Bruce and his peers with a “dedication to public service, social justice and, most importantly, the courage to make ethical decisions under the most trying of circumstances.”
Christy Hsu ’23, shared how her time in the New Media Rights clinic shaped not only her career choices but her entire approach to the legal field: “the New Media Rights Clinic taught me how to be a lawyer and a lifelong learner.”
