SAN DIEGO (July 19, 2024) -- Earlier this summer, Jorge García, Assistant Dean of Admissions, Financial Aid, and Diversity at California Western School of Law (CWSL), was a featured speaker at the quadrennial National Pre-Law Advisors Conference. The theme of this year’s conference was “Predicting Pre-Law,” with a “focus on resources and education for navigating the gateway to legal education in a time of constant change.”

Dean García was featured in two sessions at the conference. The first, “Law School Scholarship Practices,” sought to answer the question, “What are some of the differences among scholarship award practices that students and advisors should be aware of and how can we help students position themselves?”

The second session was called “Community Conversation – Advising Special Populations: DACA, Undocumented, and International Students.”  This session was interactive and in addition to sharing his 21 years of experience in this area, Dean García coordinated a conversation between 50+ pre-law advisors on best practices, helping each other identify the resources these communities need.

Dean García has 21 years of law school admissions experience as well as 32 years administering financial aid to undergraduate and law school students. He has presented at regional and national conferences on financing a legal education, diversity in legal education and on supporting DACA/undocumented students through law school.

Dean García has also been active with the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) on a variety of committee and work groups including Services and Programs; Newcomers Planning Work Group; Emerging Markets and Innovation Committee; Finance and Budget Committee; and Audit Committee.  He served on the Board of Trustees for the LSAC from 2019 to 2022.
