SAN DIEGO (June 7, 2024) -- The Competitive Advocacy Program (CAP) at California Western School of Law (CWSL) continues to succeed at the highest echelon. At this year’s Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, CWSL’s team came in first place in the U.S. West Region, third place in the world for the Richard Baxter Memorial Award, and ninth place in the world for the Hardy C. Dillard Memorial Award.

This year’s Jessup Team included recent graduates Sarah Becker, Maliat Chowdhury, Ariana D’Agostino, Mariah Mantzke, and Alexander Gutterud.

The Jessup competition is the world’s largest moot court competition, with participants from roughly 700 law schools in 100 countries and jurisdictions. The Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. Teams prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case.

The Richard Baxter Awards are presented to teams for excellence in Memorial writing. CWSL’s team was third place in the world for the Best Overall Respondent Memorial.

The Hardy C. Dillard Memorial Award is presented to teams for excellence in Memorial writing. CWSL’s team came in ninth place in the world for this award.
