California Western School of Law President and Dean Sean Scott Receives Ebony Pearls Foundation Excellence in Educational Leadership Honor
SAN DIEGO (June 24, 2024) -- California Western School of Law (CWSL) is proud to announce that CWSL President and Dean Sean M. Scott has received the Ebony Pearls Foundation Excellence in Educational Leadership Honor. Dean Scott received the honor on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Ebony Pearls Foundation’s annual celebration, Ivies and Vines: Sights and Sounds of the African Diaspora.
In giving Dean Scott this honor, the Ebony Pearls Foundation acknowledged her “outstanding efforts to advance educational equity for all students, especially students of African American descent.” The Foundation noted that, “since becoming President her efforts have helped more diverse students succeed in and out of the classroom. We also acknowledge her efforts to expand diversity, equity, and inclusion programs that support and build more inclusive environments for all including students, faculty, and staff.”
Sean Scott is the first African American and first female dean in the hundred-year history of California Western. In her four-year tenure, her accomplishments include securing a $3 million gift to support a DEI endowed chair (the largest single donation in CWSL’s history) and creating and filling the school’s inaugural Chief Diversity Officer position. Earlier this year, Dean Scott was featured at the Association of American Law Schools’ Annual Meeting moderating the panel “Democracy Needs Diversity.” She was also a panelist at the Anti-Racism Dean’s Forum at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in which she offered her expertise on “Anti-Racism, Admissions, Development, and Scholarships.”
