CWSL Professors Participate in AALS’s Annual Meeting “Defending Democracy”
Last week, three professors from California Western School of Law (CWSL) took part in The Association of American Law School’s Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.
Professor Joshua A. Jones, the Director of CWSL’s new Law, Justice, and Technology Initiative, was a panelist in a discussion about generative AI and how it can contribute to legal education and legal services, leveling the playing field for students, professors, and lawyers who “may struggle with the dominant culture in a legal ecosystem.”
Professor Behzadi Cárdenas, whose work centers on Cultural Heritage and Art Law, moderated a conversation about
indigenous communities’ loss of cultural heritage through colonization, theft, and
misappropriation and the “legal frameworks, ethical considerations, and practical
strategies for safeguarding and returning cultural heritage to its rightful owners.”
Professor Behzadi Cárdenas also presented her work-in-progress for colleagues in the
area of Intellectual Property, as part of the AALS’s program for emerging scholars.
Professor Kristen van de Biezenbos, one of California Western’s newest faculty members and an expert on Energy Law,
presented her work-in-progress for critique from colleagues in the area of Natural
Resources and Energy Law.
