Biography

Emeritus Professor Scott Ehrlich received his JD from New York University and an LL.M from Harvard Law School. After several years of teaching at California Western, he returned to Harvard Law School as a Visiting Scholar during a sabbatical. Later, he served as a Visiting Attorney at the Office of the US Trustee in San Diego. He was an active member of the State Bar and served as chair of the Board of Legal Specialization of the California State Bar, and the Personal & Small Business Bankruptcy Advisory Committee. He was also a member of the Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.

Before coming to California Western he worked for a large investment firm overseeing the legal aspects of acquiring and financing large real estate transactions, including office buildings in San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. During his 40 years at California Western, he was Director of the Dual Degree JD/MBA Program and advisor to the LGBTQ+ student organization. His teaching subjects included Property, Secured Transactions, Bankruptcy, Legal Analysis and Business Planning.

Professor Ehrlich was an active force in local community projects and organizations. Among many community involvements, he was the co-founder of the San Diego AIDS Project in 1983 and co-founder of the Tom Homann Law Association (San Diego’s LGBTQ+ lawyer association).

He is an endurance athlete and has competed in National and International triathlon championships. In 1980, he was one of first athletes to ride his bike solo across the United States.
