Biography

Professor Kaitlin McCormick-Huhn joined the faculty after serving as an Assistant Federal Public Defender for the District of Nevada in the office’s Capital Habeas Unit. She has published on topics related to bias and stereotypes, intersectionality, and emotion—topics she now explores in various legal domains, such as criminal law. Her most recent article was published in University of Richmond Law Review.

As an Assistant Federal Public Defender, Professor McCormick-Huhn’s practice focused on representing individuals in federal habeas corpus proceedings, including individuals sentenced to death and individuals in immigration detention. Before joining the FPD, she clerked at the Nevada Supreme Court for then-Chief Justice Lidia Stiglich. 

Professor McCormick-Huhn completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, William S. Boyd School of Law. During that time, she designed and conducted research on bias in the legal workplace. She also collaborated with an interdisciplinary team of UNLV professors to design workshops for the local school district on the role of bias in discipline decision-making. They delivered the workshops to over 350 school district staff members. During her fellowship, Professor McCormick-Huhn taught undergraduate courses in UNLV’s Department of Interdisciplinary, Gender, & Ethnic Studies.

Professor McCormick-Huhn has a J.D. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Nevada Law Journal. She received a Ph.D. in Social Psychology and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Penn State.
